Mercer Island's first inhabitants were not until
1885, long known as the Vacation Landing beyond
Seattle and was accessed only by boat or ferry for
those trying to escape the City hustle. Still today,
it is reverent in its beauty, calm and peacefulness.
Working in the City while living in the most
beautiful place just minutes away.
Mercer Island is it's own City, with it's own
Schools, City Planning and Government. Your voice
will be heard on Mercer Island as there are rarely
more than 20,000 in population at any given time.
Approximately 10,000 households inhabit the island
and it supports them all very well.
Once you have crossed the bridge, you need go no
further. There are only a handful of traffic lights
in the northern City area with restaurants, grocers,
and all that you might need. There is an additional
shopping area at the south end.
With approx. 475 acres of Parkland, with every kind
of park you can imagine, plus you are never too far
from a waterfront park to relax, and enjoy the
beautiful views of Lake Washington, Mt. Rainier,
the Cascade Mtn Ranges, Mt. Baker, the Olympic Mtn
Ranges and all the cities; Seattle, Bellevue,
Medina, and Renton. Even Interstate 90 passes
through the island, hidden below parks, ball fields,
tennis courts and places for picnics.
The Schools here are highly respected, and are
another reason why people are drawn to Mercer
Island. Mercer Island students consistently rank
highly among schools in the state for students
attending post-secondary schooling--approximately
90% of graduating Mercer Island high school seniors
continue on for further education.
